Welcome to Joseph H. Wade Academies

Welcome to JHS 117 Joseph H. Wade Academies, located at 1865 Morris Avenue in the Bronx!   The staff, parents and students of I.S. 117 Joseph H. Wade Academies are committed, as lifelong learners, to the educational and technological challenges of the 21st century. Within a safe and nurturing setting, each child can reach his or her potential as a critical thinker. We believe this can be achieved by creating a multicultural, student-centered, parent-supported environment. The national, New York State and City standards will be addressed, met, and incorporated into all facets of student learning.

Here at Wade Academies, we recognize that parent partnership is the key element to student achievement and pride ourselves on forging strong relationships with students, parents and the community alike.  In order to facilitate the building of these relationships, we have organized our school into academies, each serving a distinct portion of our students.  These academies have been named after different universities in the New York metropolitan area, as our goal is to provide our students with the skills necessary for college and a successful future.  The academies are:

v Columbia House:  the Honors Academy at Wade serves our 7th and 8th grade high-performing students.  Rigor and high expectations push our students to new heights as they take such courses as Algebra I, in which students take the High School Regents Test at the end of their 8th grade year.

v Fordham House:  the 8th Grade Academy named after Fordham University focuses on rigorous courses aligned with the new Common Core Learning Standards (CCLS), providing students with skills needed to be successful in high school and beyond, while also focusing on the high school application process.

v Pace House:  the 7th Grade Academy named after Pace University that focuses on rigorous courses aligned with the new Common Core Learning Standards (CCLS), providing students with the skills necessary to be successful and life-long learners.

v NYU House:  the 6th Grade Academy named after New York University that focuses on rigorous courses aligned with the new Common Core Learning Standards (CCLS).  This academy also houses the 6th-8th grade bilingual students, preparing our students for a successful future in the languages of both English and Spanish.
